Despite being almost a decade old, Clash Royale is still one of the most popular video games and is making yet another comeback. This month marks the 9th anniversary of the game and new additions are attracting players. One of the main things Supercell did to get players to come back was expanding the trophy road by increasing the maximum amount of trophies a player can acquire. Additionally, there are new matches that are played for ranking, ranging from challenger one to ultimate champion. These new game modes have been popular because they allow players to partake in one versus one matches without the risk of losing trophies.
“I haven’t played in months, but I hated the risk of losing trophies”, said Junior Connor Lee.
Some new additions to the riveting strategy game have appeased players, but some have more mixed reactions such as the evolved cards. Junior Benny Moosbrugger says, “Evo’s are busted and not fun to play against, and some are insanely overpowered”. When referring to evolved cards, Benny’s reaction emulates most clash royale players who think evolved cards are potentially game-ruining. Despite this hate for the newly evolved cards, most players use them in their battle decks. Whether it’s to keep up with other players using evolved cards or not, it’s undeniable that these cards are a focal point in the game in 2025.
With widespread hate for overpowered evolved cards, players were delighted to see that the 9th anniversary season came with a retro royale mode. None of the ‘weird’ new cards, only classic cards that came out somewhat close to the release of the game.
All in all, Clash Royale has an abundance of active players and is an extremely engaging and potentially addictive game that is making a strong comeback. Some new additions to the game are beloved while others are controversial. It’s a very different game from release but still gives players the same blissful experience.
