Conge is one of the most anticipated days of the school year. Every spring, students at Convent and Stuart Hall High School eagerly await the tradition that brings a much-needed break from academics, which is what Conge is all about. The Conge celebration is planned by the student government to surprise students with a day off filled with fun and exciting activities. It is a cherished tradition that promotes unity and community at Convent and Stuart Hall. However, even beyond our school, Conge has been a tradition shared by all Sacred Heart schools around the world for over 200 years.
“Conge has always been one of my favorite traditions at school and to be able to spend the day with my friends at the zoo was definitely something we didn’t know we needed” Freshmen Maya Youssef said.
For this year’s Conge, the announcement was made over video during A-period classes on Monday, March 24. For the first half of the day, students were taken to the Oakland Zoo, which gave students an amazing opportunity to wander and explore the various animal exhibitions or grab a snack at the top of the gondola. Upon returning to campus, the afternoon was packed with competitive games in the gym that pitted the class years against each other. Both tug of war and dodgeball were played by grade level to see who would emerge victorious. The results were mixed. The seniors won the tug of war, but the sophomores were the champions at dodgeball. While these events brought out the competitive spirit within the students, everyone had a great time.
Conge is more than just a day off; it’s a day of celebrating school spirit and having fun. Until next Spring!
