The DSCO (Drinks, Snacks, Community Office), the student-run snack shop, is officially open on the Pine/Octavia campus. In its first week, it has already raised $1,700.
All proceeds will go directly toward student activities that will help fund events like Spirit Week activities and dances. The store only accepts electronic payment via Square reader.
Students have been enjoying having the DSCO on campus.
“I like the DSCO. It is cheaper than the other stores, and they have Starbucks drinks,” says senior Connor Lee.
“I love stopping by the DSCO to grab a quick bite before I head to class,” says senior Nico Rivera.
The DSCO provides a convenient place for students and teachers to grab quick, affordable snacks and drinks, while the proceeds go toward “better events, lower ticket prices, and more opportunities for students to shape school life,” as Student Activity Coordinator Anthony Clemons says.
The idea for the DSCO began to take shape at the end of last year when Ms. O and Mr. Clemons started discussing ways to boost school spirit and expand student activities. “We were looking for a project that would give students real leadership experience while also generating funding that stays directly within the student community,” says Clemons.
Currently, the DSCO is in a trial period to gain feedback about whether the DSCO would be beneficial for the school to have. “We have already needed to expand hours to include before and after school,” says Clemons.
If all goes well, the DSCO may launch a second location on the Broadway campus.
“We hope DSCO becomes a staple of student life: student-run, student-supported, and constantly evolving based on what our community wants,” says Clemons.
If you would like to work a shift, which is about 20-25 minutes, for service hours, complete the form that was sent out in an email from the student activity coordinators.
