Player of the Year

ike2Senior Ikenna Nwadibia, point guard of the Varsity basketball team, earned the Player of the Year award in the Bay Counties League West. Ikenna led the league in scoring and came in second in rebounds and assists. Those who watched Ikenna play in person saw how he commanded the court with his voice and energy. The Knights racked up big wins through Ike’s smart play calling, and drive for teamwork. “While the coaches around the league recognize him as the best player in the league, more importantly, they made a point to me of telling me how much they respect him as a person, and as a student athlete,” said coach Charley Johnson, who added, “I’m incredibly proud of him and his effort this year.”

Ikenna put up number of strong performances to close out the season: a 17-point, 11-rebound game to clinch first place in the regular season with a resounding 58-37 victory over Lick-Wilmerding; a 17-point, 12-rebound effort against Lick to help advance the Knights into the championship game of the BCL West playoffs; a 22-point, 12-rebound game against University in the championship game; and a 22-point, 14-rebound effort against Emery in the first round of the North Coast Section Championships.

A Review of the Season:

  • Knights finished 21-8
  • First place in league for regular season
  • Finished ranked 5th in North Coast Section; advanced to 2nd round
  • Knights have advanced to 2nd round of NCS four of the past five years
