“Dune: Part Two,” is the sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 sci-fi epic, the movie continues the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he navigates the dangerous and futuristic world of Arrakis, a desert planet filled with a vital substance called spice, which is essential for space travel in the world. Spice is the most sought-after object in the whole world.
The movie picks up right where the first one left off, with Paul and his mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), joining the Fremen, a native tribe important to Paul’s destiny. The film dives further into the political tension between the powerful families and the connectedness that they have. Junior Altan Agi said, “I thought that Dune 2 was a very good movie. I didn’t see the first one so when I went to see the second I thought I was going to be lost but I wasn’t. They did a good job introducing the characters and by the movie’s end I knew what happened. Overall I thought it was a very fantastic exquisite movie experience”
Visually, “Dune: Part Two” is stunning. The depiction of the desert, along with great visual effects, continues to impress the audience of the harsh beauty of Arrakis. Villeneuve’s attention to detail, from the design of the ornithopters (futuristic helicopters) to the towering sandworms, creates a rich world that feels alive and dangerous. Due to the incredible cinematography and storytelling, it is considered a frontrunner for multiple Oscars in 2025. “I think it was a cinematic experience. Every part of the movie was done excellently. The acting, the cinematography, the sound design, CGI, etc. It was another epic installment in an awesome franchise and I cannot wait for the next Movie,” is what another Junior, Cabot Dick, had to say about the movie”. The cinematography, paired with Hans Zimmer’s music lifts the atmosphere and makes it feel as though you are watching one of the greatest movies of the century.
However, the film’s slow pacing might be a setback for some viewers. While the detailed storytelling and character development are strengths, certain scenes feel too long, which could hurt the audience’s patience. Despite this, “Dune: Part Two” successfully builds on the first movie’s foundations, offering a thrilling sequel of Paul’s journey and setting the stage for an exciting third movie. For fans of the original film or the classic novels, this sequel does not disappoint as it hit a domestic box office of $282,144,358 and $700,000,000 globally.
