In light of the new school year, there have been many changes to the schedule. One of which is centered around lunch. While it may be up for discussion, here is what Junior Max Machle has to say about the new lunch period, “It’s a little short compared to last year and I believe a longer period to let us have more time to walk over and to actually enjoy it would be better.” This shows how lunch is getting too hectic. For example it took students 10 minutes just to get their lunch, that’s 25% of the time, and if they have to cross campuses gives them very little time to actually eat lunch.
Sophomore Finn Guibert says “The food is very good, however it needs to be later at like 12 or so.” This result of a shorter lunch has left many students frustrated over the change in lunch timing. In addition, the change has left students wondering what they can do to make it work as now kids cannot drive other people to cross campuses. With lines at PO and Convent getting longer and longer as the weeks go by, many kids have resorted to going out to eat for lunch.
So what’s the solution? The most logical way would be to extend the lunch period. Making the lunch period longer would allow for kids to have an actual lunch and not have to rush. In addition, it would give kids a longer break in between campuses to chat with friends and have a little bit of relaxation. Last year, kids could do homework, study, and have fun during lunches, but now if a student needs to cross campuses during lunch, they must stand in line and then quickly eat before walking over leaving little breathing room.
In summary the new lunch schedule causes stress about the ability to cross campus and eat in the smaller time that is allocated. Lunch should be a time for kids to talk with friends they don’t get to see in class, and even sometimes get some homework done. Hopefully this will change as it is not only me who believes strongly in this opinion.
