“Leading the mind, body, and spirit through sport is a fun and very interesting class. As an athlete, I am able to learn more about the intricate details of the mental side of sports,” says Altan Agi, an 11th-grade student.
This new class is an elective offered to 11th- and 12th-grade students interested in learning more about playing sports and its psychological aspects. It offers a safe space for self-discovery and reflection, building on experiences, and utilizing skills learned through athletics to apply and evaluate how they are used in other aspects of life. The class explores skills, behaviors, and beliefs beyond just the games. It is taught through interactive methods, such as projects and presentations, that engage students and allow them to be proactive in their learning.
Benny Moosbrugger says, “It’s really fun and interesting, and I love the teacher.”
The two teachers for this class are Ian Carlos Morales and Dana Kuwahara. Morales is also an athletic trainer at Convent and Stuart Hall High School. He brings experience and wisdom to this class, having previously served as an athletic trainer for the 49ers and knowing all about sports and their psychological effects. The other teacher is Dana Kuwahara, who is the athletic director at Convent and Stuart Hall High School. She is experienced in teaching this class, having taught it before.
