With summer now behind us, we are approaching cooler weather. At least that’s what was expected. But recently, there has been an unexpected spike in temperature. Foggy afternoons and cool breezes have been replaced with scorching days, reaching temperatures as high as 93º Fahrenheit. This unforeseen change in weather caught everybody by surprise, including students at Convent and Stuart Hall.
The cross between campuses turned from gentle strolls to dreadful hikes with the temperature increase. With the combination of the grueling sun overhead and coming to class all sweaty, schedules with a lot of crossing were dreadful. But luckily, with the grace of Mr. Buckley, students were alleviated from dress code temporarily in response to the uncomfortable heat. The temporary update of the dress code permitted khaki shorts for the young men and skirts for young women.
But the good graces of Mr. Buckley couldn’t save us from it all, as the blazing sun still got to everybody during sporting events. Whether it was at practice or games, you felt the increase in heat. The sun beaming down on you would have felt nice if you were at the beach, but during a long run at cross country or Oklahoma drills at football, the heat made doing anything that much worse.
Sophomore Jake Oenning says, “I enjoy the hot weather during the day, but during football practice, it is very hard on the body, especially since we practice in Marin.”
Starting from late September, we saw temperatures up to 85º, which is abnormally high for San Francisco. San Francisco is not known for its drastic weather changes from season to season, but gradual changes are seen throughout the year.
San Francisco native Ryder Anderson says this about the gradual change in weather normally: “It’s definitely noticeable, especially during spring. During baseball season, it becomes much more rainy and games get canceled. You also notice it getting colder during the winter. During the summer, it’s comfortable, usually around the 70s. But recently, it has been hotter than it’s ever been in the city.”
With milder heat in the future forecasts, the normal weather patterns seem to be returning. Even though it was delayed slightly, our transition into colder winter weather has picked back up.
