During the holiday season, there are many different things people look forward to. For some, it’s presents, and for others, it’s family gatherings. Ultimately the real prize for most Americans is food. Some iconic christmas foods are mashed potatoes, gingerbread, candied yams, christmas cookies, Ghirardelli chocolates, Ham, candy canes, and many more. There are also other “Christmas foods” that are less strictly associated with the holiday such as Thanksgiving food. Essentially, a lot of people have different traditions that aren’t universal.
My family eats christmas bread which is essentially just a loaf of white bread with frosting and sprinkles on top. This is just one of many examples of unique Christmas traditions that are relatively unheard of.
“We usually eat prime rib on Christmas” is what Mr. Woodard said when asked about his favorite Christmas food. This shows how people’s meal choices can vary despite it not being a super common tradition.
“My favorite foods are the desserts, especially the cookies my mom makes,” says Junior Winnie Chun. This is another example of varying preferences for Christmas food.
“I’m very fond of gingerbread and I eat a lot of gingerbread cookies,” says senior Chase Loveless. While this is more of a popular Christmas classic.
Although Christmas may not be as correlated with certain foods as Thanksgiving, many people have specific food traditions for Christmas that may not be universal, but are prominent in their families. Like most things in life, Christmas traditions vary between families and people and that’s what makes them special.
