After last week’s exhilarating conference championships, we have our SuperBowl matchup. First let’s recap the conference championships. In the NFC, an absolute slaughter fest as the Philadelphia Eagles took care of Jayden Daniels and the Commanders 55-23. Saquan Barclay showed the world why he is the best, and most dangerous offensive player in the league. The Eagles definitely looked like a complete and SuperBowl caliber team, with Jalen Hurts finally connecting to AJ Brown for many explosive plays, as well as the defense stepping up and stopping what seemed to be an invincible Jayden Daniels. On the other side of the league, in the AFC, the Chiefs somehow took down the Buffalo Bills with whatever dark-magic / Taylor Swift powers they use. A mix of atrocious calls by the referees, and well… Patrick Mahomes, proving why he is the best quarterback in the league, led the Chiefs to the fourth SuperBowl in 5 years.
The Eagles are tasked with stopping Patrick Mahomes and the all-mighty Chiefs from the three-peet, a feat never done before in professional football. An incredibly hard task, but no doubt the Eagles can succeed. Let’s look at some key matchups. The number one defense in the league of the Philadelphia Eagles will be tasked to stop Andy Reid’s offense, which ranked below average during the season, but is known for stepping it up big time in the biggest moments. Philly’s run defense has been exceptional all year and is looking to hunt down Kareem Hunt (pun intended) and Isiah Pacheco. Meanwhile, Chris Jones and his other half – George Karlaftis – are going to be looking to get to Jalen Hurts. However, Hurts is protected with a top tier offensive line, and should be fully healed from a knee injury he suffered in the Divisional Round. Moreover, Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson, the CBs for the Chiefs are looking to lockdown AJ Brown and Devonta Smith; no easy task.
Although the matchups for this game are theoretically very interesting and even, one problem remains for the NFL and this game. The two most unliked and hated teams are playing. NFL fans are going to be left with a difficult choice to make. Personally, I want to see Saquan Barclay and AJ Brown get a ring, as well as see Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce get a three-peat. However, knowing the NFL and their referees, I have no doubt that there will be a last second penalty called on the Eagles that somehow puts the Chiefs in Harrison Butker’s kicking range, allowing him to kick the game winning field goal. I guess we will see.
Who do you think is winning this year’s SuperBowl?
