The 2025 Convent and Stuart Hall spring sports season is in full swing, and Track and Field is preparing for another season of formidable performances. Following a successful 2024, highlighted by an NCS Class A title for the Knights as well as a State Championship appearance for the Cubs (courtesy of Charlotte Lyon, class of 2024), there is a lot of anticipation for the coming season.
Looking ahead, Convent and Stuart Hall are faced with a number of challengers aiming to top the timing sheets in NCS Class A. For the Cubs, they look to face tough competition from rivals University, Urban, and Bay. At last year’s championships, the cubs placed a very competitive fourth behind these schools, trailing by a mere 3 points from the podium and 6 points from second. For the Knights, their most notable challengers include University, Middletown, and San Domenico, who finished second, third, and fourth, respectively at the NCS Class A Championship. These runners-up are looking to knock the Knights from the top step at this year’s edition. Although both teams’ successes can be credited to a number of now alumni athletes from the class of 2024, the team still looks to promise success in 2025, holding an abundance of enthusiasm and talent through all classes. The results from a time trial held at practice last week support these expectations.
Enthusiastic sophomore Adam Elsakkar has strong hopes for this season. “I think we’re gonna be great this season,” says Elsakkar, “The throwers are looking great and our runners are looking amazing!” As a freshman, Adam was primarily a thrower, who participated in shot put and discus competitions. He had a strong freshman campaign, with a shot put PR of 31 feet, 4 inches, and a discus PR of 72 feet, 11 inches. This year Adam hopes to improve on his marks, but also looks to expand his horizon as an athlete, taking on a new challenge as a hurdler and sprinter. “I’m looking forward to breaking my PR and getting 35 [in shot put] and breaking 100 [in discus],” Adam said with confidence. “I will also be trying hurdling this year – something new for me…As they say, ‘the expert in anything was once a beginner.’”
The 2025 Track and Field season holds a lot to look forward to as the Knights and the Cubs take part in another year of fierce competition. With a talented mix of returning athletes and fresh faces, the Knights and the Cubs have high expectations for the season ahead. As the team gears up for their season opener at BCL 1 today, their goal remains clear: proving their strength and continuing the school’s tradition of success.
