Stuart Hall is known for its students participating in many extracurricular activities, whether in sports, the arts, clubs, etc. Although most of these are by choice, it can be hard and stressful to balance both your schoolwork and these extracurriculars. This article will give you some tips on how to balance both.
Planning:
It is very important to plan ahead in your schedule because this will force you to be more motivated, and there is a higher chance that you will be able to get your work done on time. After you are done with your extracurricular activities, many students lack motivation and just feel tired, so if you plan ahead, you can help avoid this feeling.
Utilizing all your free time:
The good thing about attending Stuart Hall is the amount of free time you have to do your work. During freshman and sophomore year, you typically have at least one free period and sometimes even two. These free periods are a great way to get your work done and get it out of the way. This leaves you time to do your extracurriculars after school without having to worry about unfinished assignments.
Being efficient when you have time:
Personally, I have been trapped in the loop of scrolling on my phone when I have free time instead of doing my work. Although this may feel rewarding at the moment, at night when you’re exhausted, you probably will look back and regret it. One way to fix this is by getting your work done while giving yourself some breaks. A suggestion is to do 30 minutes of work and then take a five-minute break to mentally prepare yourself for the next 30 minutes.
Being honest with yourself:
If you are feeling very overwhelmed, it is okay to reach out to your coach or the adult overseeing your extracurriculars to let them know that you need a day off due to your workload. Communication is key, and in the end, it will most likely pay off.
There are plenty of things you can do to balance both extracurriculars and academics, but these are just a few suggestions to get you started and get your work done.
