For many seniors this year, their projects are already on the move! Specifically for one student, Sebastian Horton-Vega (‘24), his project, “DiveIn”, along with Evan Marriot (‘24), is aimed to “help teach kids from Rosa Parks elementary school how to swim based on the summer program that [he] did in New York City during the summer”. Sebastian says, “In the summer program, I learned so much, from being a certified lifeguard while teaching kids to swim” which shows how Sebastian’s life experiences influenced his passion.
CAS is an important piece to the IB puzzle and without it candidates would not be able to receive their diploma. But, with the amazing CAS coordinator, Mrs. DeMartini Cooke, all the seniors are definitely on track and are expected to be finished with their CAS projects after winter break. Throughout the CAS program, students are required to document their experiences and reflect on what they have learned and how they have grown through their CAS activities. This reflection is an essential part of the CAS program, as it encourages students to think critically about their experiences and their impact on the community.
Ultimately, the CAS project and CAS program as a whole aim to develop well-rounded individuals who are not only academically capable but also socially and personally responsible citizens who are actively engaged in their communities.
