As the second semester starts, students start college counseling and have their first college counseling session on the last Monday of January. Since then, each student at Convent and Stuart Hall has received an email from one of the four college counselors to let them know which counselor will be helping them in their college journey. As this year, seniors are getting accepted to colleges and figuring out their futures, the juniors are just starting this long and rigorous journey.
The college counselors, Mr. Guerrero, Mr. Esponnette, Mr. Kingsbury, and Mr. Sisco, are all extremely qualified and have experience in college counseling and working in college admissions. The first college counseling session started with introductions, followed by students filling out a form about their ideal college. The second session started similarly but had students exploring their college preferences on SCOIR. Some of these preferences consisted of the area of the country, the size of the college, the campus setting, and more details such as private or public. Most juniors are excited to see what the college process will be like and are excited to work with the college counselors to find excellent college fits.
Junior Leo Mercado said, “I’m excited to see what college counseling is going to be like, and I’m excited to see how the counselors can help me.” Leo and many other juniors are eager to be assisted by professionals with their intense college journey.
Junior Noah Torres said, “It’s a little annoying that it takes up free period time, but I think it will be worth it.” Although it comes at a slight expense, college counseling is sure to be worth it.
Despite the loss of 45 minutes of their resource period, most juniors are excited to undergo college counseling and learn from the counselors.
