The 49ers had a disappointing 2024 season, going 6-11 while being last in the NFC west. This comes as a shock as just the season prior, the 49ers made it all the way to the Superbowl. Fans hoped that the 24-25 offseason would fix some key issues that the team had. However the front office took an opposite approach, and let many key players walk. This approach is intended to lower the roster’s salary cap in order to pay their franchise player: Brock Purdy. Brock Purdy’s contract could ellipse 55 million dollars per year, forcing the 49ers to lose key players whose contracts would be too expensive. However the front office seems to have a plan for these replacements: the NFL draft. The 49ers currently have eleven picks in the upcoming draft, with the fifth highest total draft value. The 49ers have consistently drafted well in the past few years, and look to continue that success to allow for a successful 2025 season.
Here are some of the key loses for the 49ers:
Jordan Mason: traded to Minnesota for a 6th round and a pick swap
Deebo Samuel: traded to Washington for a 5th rounder
Aaron Banks: signed with Green Bay
Charvarius ward: signed with Indianapolis
Dre Greenlaw: signed with Denver
Talanoa Hufanga: signed with Denver
Javon Hargrave: signed with Minnesota
Elijiah Mitchell: signed with Kansas city
Only time will tell what the state of the 49ers will be next season.
