G.O.O.D. Fridays
Kanye West Brings Back an Old Classic
January 15, 2016
With the release of SWISH just a month away, Kanye West appears to be bringing back “G.O.O.D. Fridays.” For those who are unaware, “G.O.O.D. Fridays” was a time period where Kanye released a new song every Friday from August 2010 until Christmas that same year. It appears that they are back which is a big deal since the music community haven’t seen them since before his release of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Their return is a good sign for the outcome of SWISH. While there is no official confirmation of “G.O.O.D. Fridays” from Kanye, however, Kim Kardashian tweeted out that he would be releasing new songs every Friday.
The first “G.O.O.D. Fridays” included some of Kanye’s most iconic songs. Tracks like “POWER (Remix),” “Monster, Devil in a New Dress,” “So Appalled,” and “Christmas in Harlem” were all originally released in his first “G.O.O.D. Fridays.” Three of those tracks found their way into My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and the non-remixed version of POWER was also included in that iconic album. While there isn’t as much time until SWISH for him to release the same amount of music, one can still be hopeful that a couple amazing tracks will be released early. While I don’t want to jump the gun, the first song has already been impressive and hopefully preludes a very successful “G.O.O.D. Fridays.”
The first track to come out, “Real Friends,” is arguably the best song he has released in a year. Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, “Real Friends” has a similar sound to Graduation and Late Registration. Unlike a lot of his newer releases such as “All Day” and “Facts,” the song takes a slower tempo, similar to that of his earlier work. At the end of “Real Friends,” the public got a snippet of what will hopefully be this Friday’s song, “No More Parties in L.A.” featuring Kendrick Lamar, the small snippet he gave us what looks poised to be some of the best rap to be released recently. While there are no guarantees, this release shows promise for the rest of “G.O.O.D. Fridays” and hopefully for SWISH. Be on the lookout for “No More Parties in L.A.” today and don’t forget to check Soundcloud every week to keep yourself up to date with Kanye’s new releases.
