The Costa Rica Trip is an exciting event for sophomores. This year, they leave on January 18 and return on January 25. President Ann Marie Krejcarek inaugurated this annual trip in 2014 to provide opportunities for all high school students to immerse themselves in a new cultural experience. The sophomores will go to Costa Rica as a service trip, indulging in activities such as surfing, snorkeling, service, and a tour through the woods. Costa Rica is the most significant trip for High schoolers at Convent and Stuart Hall over their four years.
Students are organized into small groups and engage in various service projects to meet the needs of the local community. These activities include interacting and playing with the local children at an elementary school, distributing supplies, painting, beach clean-ups, and tending the vegetable gardens. Throughout the week, students will also participate in various activities, such as guided eco-tours, zip lining, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, and surfing. Local dancers and performers will share their talents in the evenings, further enriching the cultural experience.
“I’m really looking forward to getting to know my peers more and to do some service work,” sophomore Jack Wicker said.
“I’m excited to help the communities in need, and also to go surfing,” adds sophomore Sebastian Bach Gebler.
During this sophomore year trip to Costa Rica, the experience became unforgettable. Students spend time helping to paint the gates of a local school and playing with the children there, creating heartwarming connections. Surfing in Costa Rica’s warm waters added excitement, while an eco-tour through the rainforest showcases the breathtaking scenery and rich biodiversity. The trip isn’t solely about the service and activities; it brings personal growth, different perspectives, and lasting memories that will be held in dear forever.
